Lake Chivero Recreation Park -Harare Metropolitan Province |

Location: Lake Chivero is ideally located in the southwest part of Harare, in the Manyame River. It was earlier known as Lake McIlwaine. This lake possesses a length of 8 km and a depth of 27 m. The lake can hold about 250,000,000 liters of water. The dam wall of the lake measures 400 m. It took a total of two and a half years to complete Lake Chivero. It was finally opened for public viewing in 1952. This lake is the main source of drinking water for the people of Harare. The water is also used for irrigation purposes and commercial fishing.
