Sanctuaries are areas that act as reservoirs for animal species that are threatened with extinction and require safe breeding habitats. The population of such animals is closely monitored, and opportunities for breeding and management of such animals are a priority of the country. Kuimba Shiri Bird Sanctuary - Harare Metropolitan Province

Location: It is located within the Lake Chivero Recreation Park.

Getting there: Take Bulawayo Rd. Turn left at the 30 km peg. Proceed down for 2 km. The sanctuary is near Lake Chivero. >>read more

 
Mushandike Sanctuary - Masvingo Province

Location: The sanctuary lies about 25 km from the city of Masvingo.

Getting there: From the city one follows the Bulawayo Highway and turns left at the signpost to the Sanctuary. Please note that after the turn, the road to the sanctuary becomes gravel. >>read more

Chimanimani Eland Sanctuary

Location: The sanctuary is located within the Chimanimani National Park, probably Africa’s least known nature reserve.
